Can someone tell me how chemo works in referral? Are all the nurses expected to help with this treatment and nurse them or is it just the neurology team xx

RE: Chemo and referral

Hi,

I work in referral. We have specific nurses trained in the administration of chemo, the Oncologist prescribes and the nurse team administer. The neurology nurse team generally don't do chemo but some are trained to prepare and administer cytarabine as an infusion.

We have an oncology team and its common to have chemo patients spread out in most of the wards (cats, neuro, medicine etc). The oncologists give the chemo with a nurse assisting and then the ward nurses for that ward are the ones providing the nursing care. The ward assistants in that ward also feed and walk. We just ensure we use appropriate PPE etc
