We started with a very brief (under 5 min) powerpoint on what First aid is, and what we were going to be covering. We had set up stations covering different First Aid situations, to make it easier to cover more topics on one station we split them into scenarios with things that could happen "on a walk" or "in the home" etc. We then split everyone into small groups and they rotated around the stations, which each had a vet and nurse or two nurses on. We kept it really informal and encouraged people to ask questions and made our own literature to go on the tables.

We also had things on the table for clients to look at such as bandaging material, cool coats, potential poisons and ex-fix / plates and screws etc (not first aid but people were SO interested to see how fractures could be fixed).

All of the information on the tables on the evening was compiled into one large powerpoint. In the interests of being eco-friendly we opted not to print one out for everyone ( + 30 people in attendance), but asked people to leave an email address if they wanted it emailed to them, (or in special cirumstances printed).

The drug company who make "Emedog" (sorry can't remember what they are called!) and a few others were very helpful in providing posters etc for the evening.

Hope this helps, message me if you like! Good luck!

RE: First Aid evening for clients

Not done one directly at our practice but our head vet did a talk at a hydro centre for first aid and took a load of products that are safe and not safe to use in animals and asked the group what they thought was suitable/ safe to use.

Items included deap heat cream, coconut oil, simple bandage materials, ice packs, turmeric, sensitive diets for upset tummies etc.

Really interesting to see publics persecution of what is appropriate to give animals etc.
