I previously started my training at a different practice to the one I am at now, and there is some confusion as to my fluid calcs, and how I have been taught.here is an example.

I totally agree that the OP should use their learned methodology for the OSCE. Don't mess with that!

Happy days. (Well, as happy as you can be doing as OSCE !)

RE: fluid rates question
If you need to adjust the drip rate on the giving set for the example given, then an interval of around 5 seconds between drips is surely easiest to do?!
Absolutely. That's why I then convert it to an interval between drops, but this is for an OSCE scenario and I think the OP should stick to what they feel happiest with. My experience is the OSCE calculation generally gives something simple so you will get 1 drop every 1 or 2 seconds.......

RE: fluid rates question

So, either is okay for an OSCE? What about practical application... I learned the interval between drips method....

The observation I would make is how the heck do you measure 0.17 of a drop?

If you need to adjust the drip rate on the giving set for the example given, then an interval of around 5 seconds between drips is surely easiest to do?!

Or have I missed something?

Personally I work it out as drops per second then do 1/[drops/second] to get the time between drops.

Just be careful that when you write it down you are absolutely clear with the units and what the number equals.
