We use Idexx as our main lab but their testing is prohibitively expensive for most folk, I'm just wondering if there's anything cheaper out there?
Cheers!

All of our requests have come from a place of good intentions from good owners so I'm certainly not adverse to offering it if it means we know we're not affecting herd immunity if people do opt to not vaccinate in lieu of other options.

As an aside, we had a rep come in today to chat about VacciCheck. They do DHP titre testing for <£20 ex VAT per test. Seems too good to be true but also could be exactly what we're looking for. Anyone had any experience with them??

RE: Vaccine Titre testing
But what does titre testing tell us? As far as I am concerned it shows that the animal has seen the infection or vaccine in the past but a positive titre doesn't equal protection. That has never been tested in any published challenge studies I can find. Couple that with the fact you can't use it for leptospirosis and that is the preventable disease we see most commonly. I've known lots of dogs die from lepto as lapsed vaccinators, but never one kept up to date.

When discussed with the owner so far no one has decided to risk titre testing and opted for the booster.
we have had a few refuse lepto vaccs (bit daft in Lincolnshire imho) , quite a few are asking for titres because the breeder/friend/dog forum/google - delete as applicable told them it was a good idea. When I talk to some clients wanting to go this route in many cases I get the impression they don't really understand what titre testing is. There are some out there who believe it is an 'alternative' vaccine. There is a lot of breeder influence out our way. I don't think we have done any titre testing yet for lepto and certainly not planning on getting a kit but we have had requests from clients to take blood samples that they can send away for testing - no idea where they would be sending them?

Have seen quite a few cases when I worked in charity - never a good outcome.

RE: Vaccine Titre testing

But what does titre testing tell us? They were a bit of a faff but much cheaper if you can commit the time to do them. I know one of the local dog groups to us is using somewhere else because we have had requests to just take blood samples for owners so they can send their own samples - will try and find out where they are sending them. May possibly be Laboklin?
