People disagree on whether paracetamol is an NSAID or not. Personally I don't lose sleep over it, but it the classification of paracetamol as an NSAID is certainly not unique to the Pardale SPC!

RE: dose for Pardale with NSAID

Small further clarification: the supply classification of Pardale V is NFA-VPS not POM-VPS so it can be supplied by a vet, SQP or pharmacist without prescription under the terms of the licence (i.e. for analgesic therapy in dogs only for acute pain of traumatic origin, as a complementary treatment in pain associated with other conditions, and post operative analgesia).

In a practice setting, I guess it depends on how it is being used (whether off licence, and so needs to be prescribed by a vet) and on practice protocols.

I really don't understand why the SPC has all that stuff about other NSAIDs. It's not an NSAID, and even the SPC says it belongs to the WHO classification "Analgesics, Other analgesics and antipyretics". I know it is thought to inhibit COX 3 in the CNS, Chris, but it doesn't have anti-inflammatory effects. It's very confusing though and I intend to delve into this .. and will report back

RE: dose for Pardale with NSAID
If you qualify as a SQP you can prescribe it as its a POM-VPS.
To clarify - an SQP cannot prescribe off label - so could only prescribe it for 5 days at label dose, in dog not on concurrent NSAIDs. Pretty limiting.

RE: dose for Pardale with NSAID
I have honestly never heard of or used Pardale but the data sheet says not to use any other NSAID within 24hours of each other (it already contains 400mg paracetamol)
It also says a max of 5 days treatment.

We use it a lot at licensed doses for many years and have helped lots of dogs and had zero adverse outcomes.

BSAVA formulary has a much lower dose of 10mg/kg and I find that very much less effective. I can't see any reference to where they got their dose from so stick to datasheet. Get signed off license consent.

Should be used a lot more IMO AND if you qualify as a SQP you can prescribe it as its a POM-VPS.

RE: dose for Pardale with NSAID

Pardale contains paracetamol plus codeine (the latter is not thought to have any useful effect in dogs). Paracetamol is not an NSAID (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug, although the wording of the SPC is odd in that suggests it is). Paracetamol is analgesic and antipyretic but it has no anti-inflammatory effect. There is no reason to adjust the dose of paracetamol for use in conjunction with an NSAID.

RE: dose for Pardale with NSAID

My dog had it alongside metacam after dental work.
