One of my mini lops has recently had a CT scan for recurring ear infections and surgical intervention seems the only way forward

RE: Otitis Media surgery in rabbits

No ear base abscess just recurrent ear infection. I'm not sure what procedure needs to be done. I have discussed aftercare and risk of post op complications but because I'm a VN feel they are not really going into the nitty gritty of it. just some idea what to expect would help prepare me. thanks

RE: Otitis Media surgery in rabbits

Really sorry to hear about your bunny. Does he have an ear base abscess that has tracked through to the middle and inner ear? Are they suggesting a TECA and BO? Both have similar complications than in any other species and with rabbits they must be eating soon after surgery...adequate analgesia is imperative. Ive had a bunny have bilateral vertical wall resections some years ago...recovered really well.

I'd speak to the refferal practice as they should be able to advise on past cases.

Good luck.
