My bunny was speyed on Thursday and was really poorly with gut stasis afterwards and had to be admitted for fluids and meds - is this likely to be covered on her insurance? She's with petplan. I'm worried it won't be as it's related to her Spey

RE: Gut stasis post Spey in a bunny - covered by insurance?

Her treatment cost me £160 as she was admitted for the day. She wasn't at the practice where I work as some members of staff there have a bad opinion on bunnies and I wanted her to have the best chance as she was really ill.

There wasn't ever any mention of them not charging me for her treatment or a little cheaper due to it most likely having been caused by her op.

I will submit a claim and see what happens as when I called petplan they told me they can't say if they will pay or not without having her notes and cannot authorise it over the phone.

Fingers crossed they do or it will have been a super expensive Spey!

RE: Gut stasis post Spey in a bunny - covered by insurance?

Was this at the practice where you work? A staff members pet needing such treatment I'd only charge drugs at cost, I can't imagine for a second such treatment should come anywhere near an insurance excess.

Even for a client I'd be very sympathetic on the bill as we'd done the operation.

RE: Gut stasis post Spey in a bunny - covered by insurance?

Petplan payed out for my bunnies Gut stasis post dental even though they don't pay for bunny dentals.
