Hi Alison, I am currently doing some microbiology research into the effectiveness of Hibiscrub & would really like to read the articles in the links but can't seem to get into ncbi articles, is there some code to enter?

We use a 50:50 dilution rate. You can still use human studies as credible resources, it's not as good as veterinary studies but vet med generally comes from human med!

There's little Evidence Based information out there but as all detergents require water to activate them then most practice use a 50/50 dilution rate.

Why Mix with Water and not use It Neat?

For a detergent to be effective, it needs to be combined with water as one end of the molecule is hydrophilic (attracted to water) and one end hydrophobic (attracted to dirt, for example), hence the dirt is lifted and suspended from the area of contact. Therefore, for chlorhexidine gluconate to be effective in a detergent formulation, (e.g Hibiscrub), it needs to be in combination with water.

I've done a Blog about surgical skin prep which contains as many references as I could find about Chlorhexidine Gluconate (e.g. Hibi Scrub) - it might be a useful source of info for you....
