I was wondering if anyone could share any wisdom on how I can resolve an ongoing battle between my 7 month lab and my stubborn boyfriend! We have had our pup from 8 weeks and so far he has turned out to be a lovely natured boy, well behaved (surprisingly

RE: Puppy troubles!

Thank you for the advice

I will try and get them into a behaviour class to sort him out!

Otherwise I shall take Ben Ogden's advice about looking for a new home for the BF haha!!

RE: Puppy troubles!

If you're friendly with any good trainers or a behaviourist, getting them to come over, observe behaviour, and repeat what you've been saying? Essentially the BF needs to learn to 'Think Dog' and appreciate that his actions are not only contrary to the status quo, but also making him appear unpredictable in nature and this is very unsettling for a dog, especially an adolescent dog!

See the training classes as a soft approach to relationship counselling for BF and Pup to get them on the same page.

Alternatively drop the BF off at a rescue centre and start again ;P

RE: Puppy troubles!

Jo Mackenzie - I second this. Men tend to hugely resent being told ('nagged') by their life partner but will happily do exactly what they've already been told to do when someone else says it... sigh. Know the nature of the human boy-beast behaviour, bow to it, get him on a course and I have no doubt you'll get where you need to be... xx

RE: Puppy troubles!

Hi, that must be so frustrating! Have you thought about finding a good dog trainer who uses positive methods, and taking the pup to classes as a couple? Maybe if he was hearing it from somebody other than you he might be more inclined to listen and follow their methods?
