I may be able to do my ND in Animal Management after all which is great news for me. I have written to all local Vet Surgeries to ask if they could offer some work experience, which is required (30 Hours) and they have all come back with things like, insurance doesn't cover WE people, or we do not do it blah blah.

Help, any suggestions??

Hi

When I did my ND in Animal Management, I did some work experience in a vets, but also in in a dog groomers which I loved, I still help out there (and that was 7years ago), the owners are now good friends of mine but most importantly I learned a lot about dog handling, breeds and anatomy as you have your hands on every part of the dog and get a feel for what is 'normal'

Try looking around all sorts of different animal related positions, might help confirm what job you want to do

Good luck x

Re: Can't Get Work Experience...

When I did my ND in animal management we had a 10 week slot to fill, at that point in time I didn't exactly know what career I wanted to do, obviously animal focused but unsure which career path to take. I did a week in both batterseas, 2 weeks at chessington zoo and I did the 6 weeks in a veterinary surgery-which lead to me wanting to become a veterinary nurse. Originally it was only a week but they let me stay 6 weeks-this work experience help me get my job as a student nurse. I did exactly what you did though...wrote to every place I could think of, not just veteirnary surgeries, my surgery is reluctant to take WE but are happier taking students from animal based courses, guess it depends on the surgery....I hope you manage to get a slot somewhere!! good luck!
