We have recently diagnosed a Persian cat with CKD. The owner is an elderly lady who struggles to give medication. Phosphate levels are within the normal range but she has become anaemic

RE: Kidney failure in cats

Personally any food is better than no food so the fact it's eating something is better than rocking the boat with new diets atm....you don't say what age the cat is or what stage CKD it is (is it polycystic kidney disease?)

Although as Ali says Royal canin do their palatability packs,

Is the anaemia being addressed? (Erythropoeitin or darbopoeitin?) as that might help increase appetite.

RE: Kidney failure in cats

https://www.royalcanin.com/products/royal-canin-veterinary-diet-feline-renal-support-starter-kit/174992

Due to fluctuating pH changes in the saliva (result of renal disease) from one day to the next, and consequent changes in taste, a cat can either love or hate the same food (one day tastes good, next day tastes horrible to them).

RCW have a renal pack that contains various aromatic foodstuffs and with with different mouth feel (dry, wet etc) to tempt the reluctant cat to eat. I trialled this on several renal patients and it was reported by owners that this system worked well with their pet and also was a hit with the owner too (felt they were succeeding/doing something positive).

Worth a try.
