I have just started teaching hypnotherapy again after a few years break - I would like this to become my 'retirement' job when I finally get too old, too knackered and too jaded to be doing this job anymore. The old and knackered has been there for some time but unfortunately I am still too interested to give up completely just yet.

RE: Glorified cleaner!
Warning! Nurse ranting!

After 15 years of nursing I am seriously considering leaving the profession. Is it just me or are other nurses getting sick of being glorified cleaners!!??

I now refuse to wash up after the vets and receptionists after lunch. Nurses are not the maid as well! There are bins right in front of our label dispenser but the vets can't even manage to put the backs of labels in the bin!!

Ok, rant over..... sorry!
I'm in this position at the moment....I'm wrecking my brain as to think what would I do otherwise??? What career/job does everyone else think would do instead??

I simply deployed the 'black bin liner' technique and swept all the crockery and rubbish in to a big bag and left a note on the bag that stated " The Clean Police have visited and declared the place a crime scene"
yep that would do it - another is a bio hazard sign on fridge door which got everybody shifting. Don't get me wrong I'm not a clean freak but the contents (cultures) present in the staff fridge in various places I have worked would be worthy of a visit from the UN

RE: Glorified cleaner!

I think we've all been there at (least) one point in our career... My 'blow the stack' moment happened thus...

Working all week with no breaks and late finishes, then working a full weekend with several OOH call outs I was beyond repair. So, I simply deployed the 'black bin liner' technique and swept all the crockery and rubbish in to a big bag and left a note on the bag that stated " The Clean Police have visited and declared the place a crime scene"

Safe to say a long line of guilty parties were observed rummaging about in the bin bag detritus and I enjoyed around a month and a half of veterinary self-cleaning and putting-aways. When it began to slacken off I pinned a bin-bag onto the staff notice board. Socks were noticeably pulled up again. I did giggle when we had a locum vet in and he asked why a bin bag was on the notice board and I overheard one vet say "So the coppers don't get involved again". Exit one very puzzled locum... aaaaahhhhhhh, satisfaction. Though I heartily agree we shouldn't have to do it!

RE: Glorified cleaner!
Any unnecessary clutter or mess a Vet leaves is soon collected up and placed in there filing slot etc. If they try to rant or complain they get an innocent response of "oh sorry, if you didn't bin it I assume you wanted to keep it"

The messy culture soon improves
I got fed up of asking, moved onto telling and then one day blew my stack and all coffee cups that were left in the sink or on the drainer or hanging around in consult rooms/reception were removed with the warning that any future coffee cups would meet the same fate. They were offered back to their owners (uncleaned) on payment of a suitable fine - Strangely enough I never caught sight of another coffee cup for months after that unless it was in somebody's hand

I stuck up a poster at one place I worked

'Your mother doesn't work here,

When she does she can run after you,

Until she does clean up your own mess!' - was quite successful

I have also employed the nicer version, which made the point and actually people then did have a smile and I think it sank in better

'tidying up after yourself will only be excused if supported by a signed, dated and verified note from your parent giving the reason(s) for the request and expected duration period'

The boss at the time produced a note from 'his mum' giving his reason as 'feral' and expected duration 'in perpetuity'

But the real funny to this was that the note from 'his mum' was actually seen by her when she visited the practice one day.

RE: Glorified cleaner!

oh how true!!!

RE: Glorified cleaner!

Any unnecessary clutter or mess a Vet leaves is soon collected up and placed in there filing slot etc. If they try to rant or complain they get an innocent response of "oh sorry, if you didn't bin it I assume you wanted to keep it"
