If so what supplements do you find most palatable.

I think Nutramind shares some of the ingredients with nutracalm too? Slightly unsure about that, but hopefully that all helps! I'll have to suggest this to my vets, I can't believe I've never thought of giving phenobarb and nutramed concurrently...

RE: Pre-emptive liver support

Thank you for the reply, I spoke to our Nutravet rep and have started him on Nutramed and Nutramind as well. He's not massively keen on taking them on his dry food so will have to look at getting some wet satiety but fingers crossed they'll help.

For anyone interested she recommended the Nutramed as prophylactic to try and minimize the effects of phenobarbital on the liver, apparently lots of practices use it alongside phenobarbital. As Chance suffers from Hydranencephaly, he is effectively missing a large amount of the right side of his brain and one of the symptoms he demonstrates is aggression, she also advised Nutramind. The reason being that this can help with cases of aggression associated with low levels of vitamin B and Omega 3 as well as to help keep his remaining brain function healthy. She did also suggest Nutracalm in case the seizures were stressed related however I think two lots of nutraceuticals are enough at this moment in time.

RE: Pre-emptive liver support

We use denamarin for patients already showing abnormal liver function and have had some good results, definitely chat to the rep! We're a nutravet practice though, so for something prophylactic I think we'd reach for Nutramed - it's a million times cheaper even with our markups (though maybe denamarin isn't so expensive at other practices!) and we've had some really good results too.

RE: Pre-emptive liver support

Thanks for the reply, we have seen some great improvements in practice with patients with active liver disease with protexin denemarin as well.

I have planned on contacting our reps next week when back in work. Just thought I'd see if anyone had any suggestions in the meantime. I'm sure one of our reps has suggested using liver supplements alongside medication but typically couldn't remember who and what.
