I have a very quick and slightly random question. So the APL /pop off valve on our GA machine is getting really stiff and difficult to open and close? Would you suggest oiling it? if so what type of oil can be used? I do not want to use something

RE: Anaesthetic machine query - APL vlave

Hi Colette,

So firstly, do not put any lubricant near any part of an anaesthetic machine. You are at high risk of causing an explosion.

Secondly, I'm slightly confused about your description of the part that is sticking and exactly where it is. Anaesthetic machines (without an associated breathing system) don't have and APL value, there is a pressure relief valve on the back bar on some machines but this is not adjustable. So is this APL valve part of a circle or breathing system that is attached to the anaesthetic machine. It does sound like you would be best off getting an engineer out who qualified to service anaesthetic machines.

Hope that is helpful
