Hi there,

We have been using Bravecto for dogs for a good while now and so far we have had no reported problems, it seems to be going down very well.

We have only just got the cat version in within the last 2 months, I bought 3 for my 3 cats as we have a lot of cats around us as well as wildlife. They are due to get it again on 4th February and none of them had a reaction to it being applied to them so I am currently happy to continue using it.

There is always a risk of reaction as with any other product and it will tell you in the data sheets supplied with the product.

I heard that the story started in the USA of a dog dying from bravecto and it was shared all over social media. The person who made the original claim was not the owner, and all attempts by MSD to trace the owner and original source failed.

We sell quite a lot and not had any reported problems. There used to be a website called Metacam kills and currently the bad guy is Lepto 4.

I used bravecto about a year ago on my own dog. Within a few weeks he was not him usual self, various weird symptoms which also included bilateral alopecia, lethargy, inappetance, swollen abdomen after bloods massively elevated alt, but not really anything else. After a month we 're tested the alt which was back to normal, but he still has the alopecia a year later and still not back to how he was before. Could be coincidence but I reported to vmd and bravecto. Not heard anything back.....

I'm no longer in practice and have joined my local vet healthcare plan. They use Bravecto so I started my 6 year old basset cross on it last year. He eats the tablet like a treat and I have had no issues with him. He is a scavenger and is muzzled when walked, I do have concerns about the lack of lungworm protection.

I've used Bravecto a few times with my Border Collie and never had any issues apart from the fact he hated the taste and was a nightmare to tablet! I liked the convenience of doing his wormer at the same time and knowing I only had to remember one date every 3 months! He was such a pain to tablet though and so I am now trying nexgard and simparica.

I've used Bravecto on my Border Terrier since it was launched, with no problems. As he has sensitive skin and allergies it works really well for him. My previous Patterdale had it too with no problems. My new patterdale had it as a puppy and vomited straight away. I guess it's like any drug (just like in humans) there is always going to be the odd one that reacts.

We sell about 200+ a month, and last year, had 1 that wouldn't eat it and about 4 that was sick afterwards. But no serious problems. Bravecto is our main Flea treatment we recommend.

Iv used it since it came out on my dog with no issues, actually it benifits her as she has atopy and during summer months gets berry bugs. Since starting bravecto not had any bb although its not licenced for them. Hope your mums dog is ok

I think anyone can report but maybe going through the vets surgery who treated her for the stroke would be better? I've not heard of any bad reactions abd hadn't even heard about the bad press until this week!

apparently its been used for years in the USA too

My dog has been on it now for two years. Had her on comfortis but bravecto seems to taste better and lasts longer. She is sensitive to topical flea treatments. She has also had adverse reactions to metacam and almost died on the table when given alfaxone. Every dog is an individual though so no one thing fits all. Sorry about your dog.

Well this is really strange, and very likely to be coincidental, but after me trying to read into all of this, my mum yesterday gave Bravecto to her dog (The BT with the patch in my pic) last night without me knowing, and this morning she has had a stroke! Shes been to my old practice who have now sent her back home, and she appears to be her usual self at the moment.

Im a little shocked that this has happened like this, like I say could be pure fluke that I came across that FB page and then mum gave it to her... But Personally I feel its put me off the treatment.

Can I report to the VMD of the adverse reaction as a VN out of practice?

the practice i work for uses bravecto and to my knowledge we haven't had any problems. i'd heard the horror stories in the media etc but then attended a CPD talk about it and the rep confirmed that no animal had died as a direct result of bravecto. i personally think it was just as hyped up as the L4 thing (which we also use, and i used in a past practice), there's always something! id use bravecto on mine if the cat version was a tablet! family members use it on their pets with no problems. completely agree with sal the 1st re: vectra though. had numerous problems with that at a past practice. got to the point where i didn't have it in myself to promote it :/

have heard a few scare stories - I don't use it on my cats but must admit I am very wary these days after nearly losing a cat to tiguvon when it came out - something I am not likely to forget. You could try asking the VMD if they have had any reported cases of adverse reactions? - but don't hold your breath waiting for a reply. We reported a number of cases of adverse reactions with Vectra, 2 requiring hospitalisation and and didn't hear a dicky bird back
