Has anyone else experienced a problem with some cats drooling copiously on recovery from dentals ? This only seems to happen with one of our vets and I am keen to try and figure out why. All cats have same G/A + pain relief protocols so no difference

RE: Ptyalism on recovery from dental

James Colver Cert.
1) In time, it might identify what the problem is

2) Even if it doesn't, other things will be learned along the way

3) It's good practice anyway and you can show it to RCVS for PSS :)

I don't have any suggestions additional to what's already been said, but good luck :)

RE: Ptyalism on recovery from dental
if you do find out the cause could you let us know? x
re polisher speed - I was taught to keep this as slow as possible and allow the prophy paste to do the work (equivalent of me using a soft toothbrush on myself with a good toothpaste and use a slow circular motion) as otherwise excessive friction would more than likely cause damage to the enamel - as you outline... so possibly this IS the cause. ???

However, I 100% agree that a team think-tank and discussion is the best way to tackle the issue, as no-one gains confidence or improves their education from a finger-pointing session - it's never a constructive way to overcome a hurdle in my experience Similarly, gathering evidence after the discussion might also be a good move to prove or disprove any theories; this IMO is far better than gathering it before any talks are held as, again, it might come across as an accusation/witch hunt rather than a humble investigation to improve things... I've seen it happen even to the most innocent of people with the utmost altruistic of motives (unfortunately )

You absolutely sound like an eminently sensible, fair-minded and lovely person so my apologies if I speak as if you don't already have these things in mind! I'll shuffle back under my rock!

I think you need to raise it to the whole team, via your HN or whatever, but you'll need to have kept good records of all animals involved for a couple of months I would say, so you can prove that it is an actual problem, and also some photos of affected animals.
Maybe they are putting too much pressure on the side of the head as they restrain it??
