I did the HND and it was classed as full time but was 3 days first year and 2 1/2 second year. Some of that time was also work experience catch up, or investigative research projec which after the first few sessions actually wasn't compulsory attendance at college, unless you needed help with anything.

Also they tend to start at9 and finish mostly by 4pm.

Some colleges also have creches for mum's to leave their children, or maybe they can help you by adding extra lessons for catch up when you have a child sitter, and just give you handouts for the lessons you initially miss.

FOr HND a lot of the work was more research than what you were taught in class. Maybe the ND is not as heavy on doing your own work, but I'm sure you could have a good go at it. I also taught biology and a few other modules to ND level after I completed my HND.

Why not give it a go and see how you get on, several of my year quit just because they were youngsters and couldn't be bothered to turn up or to get assignments in on time.
If you do go ahead you should get support from your local college, and also maybe from some classmates (if people missed lessons we often took handouts and arranged little sessions ourselves to help each other along).
And you can always contact me if you need any help.

PS: I started the HND at 42 years of age.

Re: Distance Learning?

Our local college runs a full time btec national in animal management, but for mature students they run 6 of the units one evening a week. These are Animal nursing, Breeding and Genetics, animal welfare, animal nutrition, behaviour and health. I checked with the royal college and bvna and they said if you are mature student and score distinctions toegether with some past experience of working with animals (voluntary or paid) then this is acceptable.

So may be worth seeing if you local college runs this as well as the full time one. x

Re: Distance Learning?

Thanks for all your replies. I have tried to do this for so long. It feels so impossible sometimes.

I start college in August doing the ANA, which is block release, 2 weeks per term, I found a tp and will be in there full time when am not at college, it will be struggle but worthwhile in the end. I looked at distance learning courses but they were too expensive, and tbh I dont think I would learn as much x
