Does anyone know the correct place to dispose of sodalime - I have an OSCEs exam this week and it says it needs to be disposed of correctly - what waste colour bag would it go into?
Thanks

I also dispose of soda lime in clinical waste. I used to wrap up in newspaper and fold it up to keep it contained, using appropriate safety measures (gloves/mask/goggles). Like the idea of using used water containers. Interesting that we should be changing soda lime after 6-10 hours of use!? How often are people usually changing it, and are people using the circle as a closed circuit?

RE: Disposing of Sodalime

we use tiger bags, first time i have ever used them in practice as every where else i have been has used clinical waster only.
I don't like them as we have to have a separate bin for syringes, they can't go in the tiger bags. Drip sets and t connectors end up in the tiger bags. We have a solo bin big yellow thing so i put the soda lime and aldasorbers in there,

RE: Disposing of Sodalime

So so so helpful! :)

RE: Disposing of Sodalime

The tiger striped bags are for offensive waste, that is not infectious. For example, normal faeces/urine, bedding etc. Infectious waste goes in yellow or orange bags e.g. gastroenteritis diarrhoea/vomit.

Depending on waste disposal company used, tiger striped bags can legally go to landfill, so bare that in mind when putting things in there! Yellow bags are incinerated, and orange bags are either incinerated or 'treated' to make the infectious agents harmless.

Loose spherosorb or similar was emptied into a bag or into a used plastic container, sealed (we kept distilled water containers etc just for this purpose ) and then disposed of in yellow bag, that way there was little/no chance of a bag splitting and leaking.

RE: Disposing of Sodalime

Thanks everyone - the tiger stipped bags throw me out a bit!

RE: Disposing of Sodalime

We dispose of ours in yellow biohazard bins.
