I spent ages looking into this and I am hoping that I have now satisfied the remit to find a solution which increases patient and operator safety (primary concern from a H+S pov was legionella)

We use distilled water and CLS chlorhexidine solution. If you use chlorhexidine in dental machines it must be suitable for the machine and must also be put into a brown water container - as its light sensitive. Should also not be used during oral surgery and generally for the cleaning process.

Also if you buy from the company directly its much cheaper We're now paying £7ish a bottle instead of £11 from the wholesaler.

Hope thats useful x

RE: daft question?

hi Sal, I always used distilled water. never chlorhex!

RE: daft question?

Same here, that's what we were told when the machine was installed by the company.

RE: daft question?

Just purified water over here:)

RE: daft question?

We just have distilled water in the bottle. We have Hexarinse on the side to flush the mouth with after the dental.

( or maybe this was just another way of stopping us using it?)

The other reason we stopped using it at previous practice was that guy who serviced the dental machine told the boss that it had wrecked the machine, which I think had more to do with the fact the boss was telling us to use tap water rather than distilled in a hard water area - I think it was limescale that wrecked the machine not the chlorhex, but what do I know?

RE: daft question?

Hi Sal

we were advised by Burtons to use distilled water, empty and refil bottle before/after use, monthly flush through, depending on weekly use, with dilute chlorhex solution,no ratio given then rinse through with distilled water.
