We have been using a dose chart provided by Animalcare but have noticed that patients are easily becoming cyanotic. We appreciate that

RE: Dose Rates for triple anaesthesia in cats

we use dom, vetergesic, ketamine very rarely use torb. Most cats are tubed but one vet in particular won't so those are masked, and in general we don't administer any gas unless required (I know...). It seems to work well, the odd cyanosis I've seen have been few and far between and resolved quickly once tubed, we've never been able to work out why.

RE: Dose Rates for triple anaesthesia in cats

Animalcare do a really good dosage chart for all of their sedation/analgesia drugs. You have to agree to spending £75 per month on their products, but this is very easy to achieve in most practices as a bottle of Sedistart (medetomadine) is around £40 a bottle and Buprecare (buprenorphine)is around £20 a bottle. They will then supply you with lovely colour charts of different combinations for cats, dogs AND rabbits and also anaesthetic monitoring sheets, canine & feline pain score sheets and hospital sheets. You will also get a controlled drugs register which is very easy to use and follow. All very handy for every day use. You will just need to contact your Animalcare territory manager. Hope this helps :)

RE: Dose Rates for triple anaesthesia in cats

We use the same dose rates. We cocktail the Dom/but and give IM then wait 10 minutes and give the Ketamine. We do a lot of prepubertal desexing - kittens weighing a kilo - and find this combination works well. Ketamine stings and we are a cat friendly practice so like to keep things stress free!!!. All our kittens are intubated and maintained on Iso/O2 and monitored all the time. We give the antisedan to our spays immediately following extubation and 5 mins of O2 and our neuters have their antisedan after 20 minutes. The are eating as soon as they are awake.

RE: Dose Rates for triple anaesthesia in cats

We use Dom/Torb/Ket at the following doses:

Torb 0.04ml/kg

Dom 0.08ml/kg

Ket 0.05ml/kg

Anti 0.04ml/kg

This seems to work well, we usually give them oxygen either by ET tube or mask, depending on the individual vet, although we are about to change over to acp/buprenorphine and propofol as we're not happy with having to wait 45 minutes before reversing them.
