He is coming up for 6 now, and seems a wee bit stiffer when he's out and about, and though he's still grooming, he's beginning to need a wee bit of help with the harder-to-reach areas.

I have my bunny on monthly cartophen injections and they seem to work a treat! He's 11 (wow) and had tried him on synoquin (vet recommended I try it despite there being some animal parts to it); of course he didn't appreciate that and spat it right out. I'm not overly keen on putting him on long term loxicom for fear of his kidneys. Have done some research into cartophen and its safe for bunnies, off label of course. The dog dosage regime should be followed. ie 3mg/kg, 4-injection courses, given 5-7 days apart. Then monthly there after (just under a month if he's getting a bit stiff). He has also got a heat pad in his hutch during the winter months where I notice him being that bit stiffer. hope this helps!

This is very useful, will Defo bare this in mind for my bunnies :-) thank you

RE: Joint Supplements for Rabbits

I have my bunny on monthly cartophen injections and they seem to work a treat!
I think you'll find these would give you a much better benefit and I know many arthritic bunnies who have a bit of a new lease of life once prescribed these :)

RE: Joint Supplements for Rabbits

i would be cautious in recommending that about. its all well and good the rep saying he knows a few practices. but is there any date on the use in rabbits??

RE: Joint Supplements for Rabbits

Nutraquin + could be used. Its all made from vegetable ingredients so no fish products etc which arent suitable for herbivores! The rep we had out a couple of months ago said she knows of a few rabbits on it.

We use Oxbow for small furries and reptiles at our vets and have always had good feedback, I haven't used the joint supplement from oxbow but have read into it before, it looks promising. I think the only reason we haven't used it is because we have a therapeutic laser which we use a lot, I've used it for rabbits with arthritis and had good feedback from owners and seen improvements myself when they have come back for follow up's. If you have access to one I'd defiantly recommend it.

if you do decide on the oxbow joint supplement I'd be very interested to hear your feedback!
