We had a couple a while ago who removed their (or possibly each other's) skin sutures (needed repeat GA to close, so a pretty major post op complication) and since then I have been doubting

RE: Post op care - bunnies

We stock a product called Medical Pet Shirts (MPS), it is designed for post op surgeries or to help with skin conditions. If you would like more information I have attached the web link to our catalogue http://www.jakmarketing.co.uk/medical-pet-shirts

RE: Post op care - bunnies

Make sure you're using the right dose of metacam - the bunny dose is higher than the dog dose!

RE: Post op care - bunnies

I wouldnt use buster collars unless absolutely necessary and if the owner is trusted to care for them with a buster collar on. There are rabbit t-shirts available also. I have also found that if too much skin glue is used it can cause a rabbit to lick/chew the wound more. Ensure they are sent home with pain relief too. I always recommend that bonded rabbits stay together unless they desperately need to be separated.

RE: Post op care - bunnies

We do intradermals and skin glue for spays. I remember it opening the wound back up 2 times in total. I would always recommend keeping them separate from their mates for a few days but still in sight/smell. Buster collars whilst not ideal should be used if a rabbit has re-opened its surgical wound.
