Does anyone have any experience with wheel chairs for dogs? I am asking on behalf of a non-veterinary friend of mine and as I have never experienced them!
The dog in question is a 12yr old shepherd with CDRM and developed arthritis ho has previously

RE: wheelchairs for dogs

Just something else to add, the company that the wheels were from did all the fitting etc and spent time with them initially to get her used to them so there is a lot of good companies that will offer support

RE: wheelchairs for dogs

I knew of someone many years ago that went down the wheels route.

Same issues, GSD with CDRM. Its one of those subjects that cause a bit of controversy bit the transformation in this dog was unbelievable. She was an active dog and to suddenly struggle was difficult. By having the wheels she was able to run on the beach again and chase a ball which was lovely to see and great for her.

The only downside was that these specific wheels were not suitable for in the house but I believe you can get the sort that they can wear all the time (would just need to be careful of pressure sores I guess).

The trouble with this disease is it brings along other issues like incontinence and that in the end was the reason to call it a day. She was on lots of meds (PLT's etc) and had regular acupuncture, so they really did give it a could go.

I would say if the dog can cope with them they are worth a try, having seen the difference they can make!

Hope this helps x
