as a nurse this does frustrate my on the charges... why should we have to earn a living from a 50%mark up on drugs that's where the industry initially had made its first mistake. when I worked in practice people did say "well the clients have to pay for our knowledge" our knowledge being either nurses or vets is in the treatment care and for the vet diagnosis. not the research and testing that goes into making a. certainly this should be reflected in our consultation and procedure charges, also include the use of consumables sterilisation charges also.. make the clients realise that they are not paying for the medication to sustain the charge of a visit,

there are a good few reason to why practices cannot compete with online prices. are practice rebates and free rep orders reflected in the overall price that are charged to the client...

We have a dog on Leventa which is now out of stock from Henry Schein. Has anyone switched from Leventa to Thyforon?

we are using thyforon too and the price hike for long term clients from soloxine didn't go down well at all( we have only been able to get 200mcg via HS and some dogs are needing 2 tablets per dose). Another price hike to use the leventa and we will be looking at a riot.

similar reaction when we swapped to the licensed zitac from cimetidine - sometimes on reception you really need a tin hat and are really grateful for that reception desk (barricade)

Dont even get me started on the cost of cerenia v the cost of metoclop

Similar to the problem we had with pancrex - out of stock for months on end and then when it does come back a significant price increase. The result - I found a company who did have stock when we couldnt get hold of it (Chemeyes) and now we don't stock it all and all our clients needing it buy direct.

Perhaps this is the future for veterinary practice, surgical and clinical services and script writing and leave the dispensing and drug supply to others (might be easier too thinking of the demands of the VMD) - but of course it will then mean that clients will have to pay the real value of a surgical procedure or a clinical intervention rather than a price that has been subsidized through dispensary sales. The more we get of these drug companies buying each other out and forming super companies the poorer our choice and supply of medication is going to be. Most practices cannot compete with online pharmacy prices so maybe the answer is to not bother and leave them to it?

We are using Thyforon, but the clients don't like the fact it works out more expensive!

We have clients who normally buy online but cant currently get any online. Our stocks will be getting low soon. Whats the issue with it?

a lot of the online pharmacies still have good stock, failing that a script for local pharmacy might turn up something?

I have been looking into something called 'synthroid' but the sizes are not really convenient - but if that ends up as the only ones we can get......
