I have a dog that is petrified of nail clipping. He is also nervous inside the clinic when away from the owners especially. We have decided to start from scratch and try and build up his confidence looking to eventually be able to clip his nails

RE: Nervous Dog

Thank-you for the replies. We have tried clipping outside with the owners but he just freaks out. He is even semi ok with having the clippers present but as soon as they go near his feet he wants out. He is definately better outside than in which is fine. The owners have been doing training at home with having his feet etc touched and to be honest he will let me stroke his feet but not touch his actual nails. I will check out the video and suggest clicker training to the owner on his visit next week :) Thankyou lovely people x

RE: Nervous Dog

Clicker training all the way! :)

RE: Nervous Dog

Have you tried clipping the nails outside with the owners present?

RE: Nervous Dog

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ayUySJ3G15M

May be interesting to watch and as long as the owner is willing to put in the effort. Was shown this by an Animal Behaviourist Vet Nurse I worked with. Time, patience and high value treats! Good luck!
