Can they give some feedback on what they thought of it... and how it's structured.
Thanks.

RE: BSAVA Merit Award course

Thanks everyone. I've emailed the BSAVA for more information on the course too.

I have become a member and got the Pocketbook (and badge) ... the book is pretty helpful.

RE: BSAVA Merit Award course

Hi

I completed the anaesthesia and analgesia last year. It was really good. It was 2 theory days, 1 practical, 2 webinars, an online multiply/short answer exam and a case report.

Defiantly worth doing for the knowledge obtained. Save £200 if you are a BSAVA member.

Hope this helps x

RE: BSAVA Merit Award course

Oh I forgot to say there were two exams if I remember rightly, all multiple choice and I think only 30qs each ish. There is also a small essay to write on a case you have dealt with (you get to pick out of a list of 5 topics).

RE: BSAVA Merit Award course

I completed the Surgical Nursing one a few years ago. Really enjoyed it although I think I would have preferred the medical nursing one.

It was about 30hrs of CPD I think. 3 lecture/practical days and two webinars. All spread over a few months so not too much crammed in. BSAVA are really good at hosting stuff like this. Really nice speakers, lovely food provided and lecture class sizes aren't too big either. You get to keep your workbooks which are packed with info.

It seems to be cheaper if you join as a member of BSAVA first. I think I saved about £200 and you get the pocketbook of veterinary nursing (best book ever!) as part of your membership.

So how long is the course... is there any time limits? How many hours would you say you spent on it outside work? Is the essay case work based from work?

I have loads of questions about it...

RE: BSAVA Merit Award course

Hi
I did the medical nursing last year.
We had two days of lectures with practical aspects too. We then went away and had a couple of webinars and another day of lectures.
We then had to compete an essay and an exam.
I found having an essay and exam to complete at the end make it a little more interesting. Made me pay attention more I guess.
The guys where great and knew their stuff. Only thing really was it was quite heavily feline based as one of the lecturers worked in a feline only clinic. I love cats and cat medicine so great but it wasn't really made aware when booking on the course. So just makes me wonder if any of the others are geared towards a specific species.
What course where you looking at?

RE: BSAVA Merit Award course

Sorry I can't help, but I'm also interested in opinions on these courses.
