I have good experience with this, but some people question is its allowed

Also one of my nurses said administering it slowly s/c makes it sting less (so do it super slowly!) this seems to make a big difference also

We keep it in the fridge which i think helps, my last practice didn't and on balance i guess i witnessed more stinging reactions with the room temp stuff.

Its routinely used iv in the states.

Better still Cerenia is proven to provide some visceral analgesia and have an anaesthetic sparing effect for both dogs and cats undergoing ovariohysterectomy. We are starting to use it as part of the pre med for abdo surgeries for this reason.

RE: cerenia with lidocaine

I think it actually says on the Cerenia data sheet now that keeping it in the fridge might reduce the sting.

we store certain in the fridge - vets said they get less reaction that way.

RE: cerenia with lidocaine

rubbing the area well is all we do. Would agree that some animals appear more sensitive than others but I suppose its the same with synulox - some don't bother and some seem to really feel it.

Have heard the theory that lidocaine being acidic helps to stop the sting in cerenia because it makes it less alkaline but have no idea if this is the case or not? but if that was the case wouldn't the lidocaine affect how the cerenia works?

(having just looked it up it looks like maropitant and possibly meta cresol the preservative are both on the acidic side so that theory doesn't work either)

RE: cerenia with lidocaine

nope never done this and from personal experience lidocaine stings like a bitch itself.

we keep ours in the fridge and it seemed to reduce the sting in most patients. although i find that rubbing the area as I am injecting seems to work just as well.

like has been said I think some animals are more sensitive than others.

RE: cerenia with lidocaine

Forgive me for being dense but I'm pretty sure local takes a minute or two to work - how on earth would it help to inject it at the same time? Or are you injecting local, waiting two minutes and then injecting the cerenia in exactly the same spot?

sort of sounds like one of those things people do that's based on urban myth and not sound scientific evidence my first boss always used to give Rimadyl and Clav LA in the same syringe to save (him, not the animal) another needle...
