There are so so many implications of peri operative hypothermia, some which may not come to mind as readily as others. Surgical infections for one and there are a lot of human studies done on this, some with very worrying results

not just that though, a cold patient isn't having it's welfare tended to and this is a responsibility of the RVN, maybe quote the code of conduct to your nurses!!

do u just take temp during op or have an rectal probe? getting under draped can be an issue

Thanks for all the resources guys. One of my pet hates is hypothermic patients, and even though we have Bair Huggers for every patient we still end up with cold patients more often than not...until now, we have purchased a 'Hot Dog' unit and various sized blankets, and I LOVE it! So much we are buying another one. I HATE IVF bags (or any other type) of 'hottie', thermal burns and puncture are a risk, and what's more they draw heat away from your patient when the two reach equilibrium, and people ALWAYS overheat them. Good on you for pushing for great nursing care!
