I also ran the rep treadmill for a couple of years and agree with what Dippy said. Great salary (compared to vet nursing) but they want their pound of flesh. If you have no family/children and don't mind pressure and spending lots of time away form home, it's great. You get to meet lots of interesting people and places.

I repped for 6yrs and hated the majority of it but got too used to the salary. I'm not naturally taget driven and found meeting targets very hard as I'm not the sort of person who can easily lie just to get a sale if I don't believe in what I'm saying. Having said that, I'm great at selling over the phone when I can't see their reaction and they can't see my nerves! I did find that the training and knowledge I gained though have helped me hugely since returning to practice as I'm more than happy "selling" to clients and promoting myself and the practice and also asking for sponsorship but I have to believe in my cause 101%!

Oh Kezza you ARE good enough for nursing, theres just too many chocolate bicky payers out there right now.

I was a rep for about 3-4 years, was OK and good experience but back nursing now. It can be quite lonely in the car all day and very stressful if you have a manager who is pushy on targets. I love nursing too much.

Hi I did leave nursing to be a rep but after 8 months was back nursing again!

I dont think it suits everyone, I'm not saying I wouldn't give it another go in the future but for a different sort of product and one I could believe in

You have to be prepared to drive a hell of a lot, get used to being rejected at practices, be prepared to be on your feet a lot at various congresses, get used to a load of abuse when your product doesn't do what the principle vet wants it to do etc etc
