I applied for a hospital assistant post at the Greater Manchester RSPCA Hospital. It was nearly 3weeks ago and I called to see if they got my application, which they confirmed. However I haven't heard from them since. I kinda know I haven

Re: RSPCA

Wow, many thanks for your replies :) I do have GCSE science, but because I took foundation single science, the highest mark available was a D, which I got. I'm really good at biology though. :)

And cheers muchly for the job link. I'm in Manchester so would be ideal :)

Re: RSPCA

hey there Humanenurse,

Where are you based? There are two positions available with the PDSA in the north west, which maybe of interest to you. They are for Student Veterinary Care Assistants.

These positions may entail undertaking the ANA (Animal Nursing Assistant) qualification, which may lead onto veterinary nurse training. Anyways, here are the links. One is based at the new hospital in Kirdale (liverpool) and Trafford (greater manchester)

http://www.pdsa.org.uk/managed/emp_search_action2.html?emp_id=3281

have you tried any non-tp places yet? they will just give you in-house training but its a good start, as most will tell you

im currently 2 weeks into a non-tp nurse position and i have gcses and alevels in science, you seriously have to jump through hoops to get them tp positions

im happy where i am for the moment

good luck!!!

Re: RSPCA

Oh right, cheers for the heads up :) Last time I was looking into becoming a VN you needed 5 GCSE's including maths and english (or eqivilant). Are they asking for science now aswell do you know?

I don't have that you see, was planning on resitting anyway but I've gone to great lenghts to get my level 2 in adult numeracy....hope I don't go back another step :S

Re: RSPCA

Sorry the jobs have been filled, typical! Still its good that they have suggested writing in though. There are exams coming up over the next month so hopefully as students qualify, there may be some trainee jobs going.

Re: RSPCA

Thanks for the reply Maisy :)

I just called and was advised that x2 positions have been filled :( I can get some feedback if I write in though, so may do that as it would help me with further applications. I'm sitting here going through the TP list, calling vets one-by-one to ask if there are any positions. Sending my c.v to 5 but none have one as of yet.

Re: RSPCA

Was there a closing date with the position? Sometimes you won't hear anything back before the applications are closed, even if you have applied well in advance. In fact a lot of charities will also add that if you haven't heard back within x amount of time then assume you haven't been shortlisted, so would be worth checking the advert if its still around.

Personally I wouldn't call, I never have done as I don't assume it would make me feel any better about missing out! However it could just be that they're snowed under with applicants at the moment and are working their way through.

Good Luck!
