I have never been involved in one or seen the procedure take place. Can someone give me a little bit of insight into what happens?

The dog will have a much higher risk of reaction as its own body will have now produced antibodies.
Good luck. Doesnt sound like a very promising case however! I've only been at this job for a few days and as far as I understand the dog has lymphoma and has undergone several rounds of chemo. This is its 2nd blood transfusion.

Re: My first blood transfusion

Hi

The first 30 mins is most important. Blood should be transfused slowly at this point. Temp, hr, rr should be monitored every 5 mins for the first 30 mins then every 30-1hr after that. Signs of transfusion reaction are pyrexia, vomiting and panting/ tachypneoa.
They will prob haemolysis some blood and produce orange urine post transfusion. Remember pre and post PCV and measure it again 12-24hrs post.
What's wrong with the dog?
