We lost a lovely dog this morning with it, massively swollen, hot mammary glands, pyrexic (temp of 40 degrees) and having periods of being totally unresponsive to stimulus. We PTS her this morning as she started fitting :-(

Re: Severe mastitis

I have also seen a severe mastitis turn into septic shock. The bruising on the dog was literally spreading infront of my eyes!! ? Seizure due to hypoglycaemia. Lots of great nursing care needed for septic cases. Tpr's and BP really important to monitor effectiveness of fluid therapy. If available monitor coags as septic shock can cause SIRS/ DIC and plasma transfusions may be needed.
Even having all this available we still couldn't save poor dog!

Re: Severe mastitis

Sounds like toxic/septic shock.
