We have 2 groups, those that prefer to pluck and those that prefer to shave

Re: Cat castrate prep

I always pluck.
Everyone in my practice plucks. I like to pluck the testicles then clip a small amount of hair from around them.

[/quote]

This, especially if it's a long haired cat; clipping a small square around it prevents angora, persian, or other super long fluffy hair getting in the incision. But yes, I'm a plucky sort of vet!

Re: Cat castrate prep

Everyone in my practice plucks. I think its down to personal/practice preference and trying to do the best by the cat. I have been told by a student nurse that we should be clipping and not plucking these days

Re: Cat castrate prep

We are all pluckers. We did have a questionnaire come round on this subject a while ago from someone doing a dissertation - not sure whether the results were ever published. I find clipping fiddly and likely to catch scrotum with clippers - but thats just my opinion. Be interested to hear from others.
