I work in a large charity practice so vaccine protocol is established by head office and is just DHPPi+L annually. We have seen a few suspected cases over past year but all I think have been unvaccinated dogs I just wondered what others thoughts were on the subject.

but are you seeing cases of lepto? I live in a very high risk area for lepto (Lincolnshire - lots of ditches and rats) and whilst I have seen plenty of lepto cases in the past ( and one case which was very suspicious fairly recently) in unvaccinated dogs or dogs whose vaccine has lapsed I cant recall seeing a case in a vaccinated (up to date) dog yet.

I suppose if thats what the lab is advising and you feel the need in your own dog then ..... but maybe be careful about advising this to clients until checked with the vaccine company. What is your boss suggesting your vaccine regime should be in light of the information from the lab?

I was speaking to Nationwide Lab, we were talking about doing vaccine titration and they said that wouldn't recommend it for lepto just to vaccinate every 6 months, but could use titre for the DHP. We are in Hampshire and dogs are in lots of woodland/rivers so potentially high risk areas.

I know in the past that there have been concerns with the lepto vaccine but I dont think that this is the case now - unless there have been a huge number of reported failures in animals that are being vaccinated as per manufacturers protocol.

Which lab was it you spoke to? Are you in an area with a lot of lepto cases

We use nobivac l4 and its licensed for 12 months. I doubt they would be given the license if the science wasn't there to say it lasted that long. But saying that i have seen many posts on the internet regarding this although its often from the anti vacc brigade.

People are already more worried about vaccination because of the crap available on the internet, i think its a bit irresponsible for people to be suggesting this.

Forgot to say we are using Nobivac DHP which does have a 3 year licence.

Having looked at the data sheet for the vaccine we use, it's licensed for 12 months. We had a talk on the L4 vaccine and it has to go through efficacy tests to get the licence. Might be worth speaking to your vaccine supplier for clarification and ask for any technical papers.
