Please could someone explain to me so I can pass on my knowledge with evidence. Many thanks.
A bit shocking to see that word specifically - maybe "euthanised" was lost in translation from Persion?

As soon as I read that the results were obtained from 35 new zealand whites, I knew I was looking at the results of an animal laboratory test. It's easy to forget that most of the medicines/materials we handle in vet practice every day have been tested on animals.

http://www.noah.co.uk/issues/briefingdoc/04-exper.htm

Hopefully the results from the Iranian tests can continue to be disseminated and continue to improve rabbit surgical techniques, which is why this forum is so helpful!

Re: Catgut in rabbits

I had to re-read that bit, sacrificed!

Re: Catgut in rabbits

[quote user="Alison Clare Hickman"]

interesting read - but is anyone else worried by the abstract saying "After 1, 3, 7, 14 and 28 days, the animals were sacrificed".

Sacrificed!!

I knew catgut was not to be used because of adhesion formation but one of the vets questioned me on it (loves catgut) - now I can just print off that article!!

No evidence yet (still looking...) but I seem to remember it was avoided due to high likelihood of post-op adhesions...

Will revert with more when found...

Otherwise; you could send a fax (01423 563899) to Harcourt-Browns (rabbit specialist) and ask the question. They're usually happy to respond to fax queries - avoid telephone, they like things in writing.... (don't expect fast response but they will usually answer).

Regards
