She paid for her cat to be spayed. She contacted the vet who then said records showed that they only tied the tubes.
I've never heard of this for routine neutering

Re: Tube tying in female cats?

well as long as its sorted now - very surprised , you learn something new every day. Have never come across this before especially in a cat. have seen bitch neuters where only the ovaries are removed and know of a few vasectomised dogs but never come across anything like this in cats

Re: Tube tying in female cats?

Yes, uk practice, 'surgery' performed 2 years ago so presuming tube tie worked for a little bit. She is happy now as practice has offered to vaccinate kittens foc and microchip and spay mum at no cost to her. I did wonder if it could have been a European vet new to the UK. Apparently the policy from the vet team at the time was tube tying. The owner had no idea of this.

Re: Tube tying in female cats?

sounds very odd to me - ? so either the cat was pregnant pre procedure or the ligation failed? or ? no such procedure was carried out ? - very very odd.

Did this definitely happen in this country?

Re: Tube tying in female cats?

There are some differing practices certainly in other European countries but the standard practice here is a full OVH ..maybe a European vet new to Uk practice ?? Seems very unusual . As the owner I would be looking at what I signed for on the consent form . If I signed for OVH or it stated the words spey or spay I would be pretty miffed ...would think there would be a legal case here unless the veterinary practice had explained this was a possibility and given details of the procedure ..otherwise it's not really an informed consent
