I'm having an utter meltdown and need information (literally anything) on care plans of any kind .
3500 words says someone must know a few snippets .I can't find any of my notes and appear to be having a brain fart for

Re: A plea for nursing care plans :'(

HI as a previous District Nurse and now a 1st year vet nurse I have decided to start care planning the now even though its 2nd year stuff as its the one thing I understand. I,m fed up of RLT as that's the model we used for all our human plans - so far i,ve decided to use Ability model for medical care plans and for surgical day cases a modified Orems model we got at college. The pink book is really good or any human nursing book will have them. I have loads of stuff in my boos on then. Don't know if I could scan them and send to you. At my TP its usually just kennel sheets.

There is an example of a RLT care plan on RCVS site too,

Re: A plea for nursing care plans :'(

If you're still needing info on this I can dig out details of my old references from when I wrote one of my care plan assignments if you like. (I used the ability model cos I think it's the easiest to understand) Bookwise the pink book has a load of care plan info as does the newer version of the "Handbook of veterinary nursing" (Orpet & Welsh) which has a whole chapter on applying the ability model. There have also been a lot of articles published in the veterinary nurse recently along with some older ones in the VNJ.

Re: A plea for nursing care plans :'(

Most posts have already recommended the main sources of information. Definately BSAVA Textbook of Veterinary Nursing 5th Edition has a large chapter about nursing care plans. The main ones used in Veterinary Nursing are The Orem Model, The Roper, Logan and Tierney Model (both human models but can be adapted for Veterinary use) and then the Ability Model (Orpet & Jefferies) which is now a recognised Veterinary Care plan and is a combination of the Orem and RLT models. Good luck

Re: A plea for nursing care plans :'(

Search for Google Scholar for any books that you don't want to buy.

They show about 50% of the pages, and have all the information for referencing too.

Plenty of there involving care plans.

I just handed my medical nursing assignment in with a massive help from Scholar!

Re: A plea for nursing care plans :'(

Hi. When I did this assignment, after much agonising over the rather vague guidelines, I read the chaper in the BSAVA manual and took out a few books from the library on human nursing care plans. I then designed a simplified care plan which I could use in practice (we don't usually use written plans) and applied this and also the RL&T, Orem and Orpet & Jefferies plans to one of my patients to compare them, and discussed my findings. It was quite a good exercise as I experienced a few different approaches, and the assessors liked the comparisons!

Re: A plea for nursing care plans :'(

I have quite a few books but not that one :(
