Usually in an mlk (morphine, lidocaine and ketamine). I was taught ketamine helps with 'wind up' the anticipation of pain a patient gets. Therefore is usefully in with pelvic or spinal fractures or multi trauma patients x

Re: Ketamine as pain relief

We use ketamine for pain relief as we are unable to get opiates in the UAE! We use a dose of 0.1/10kg I/v as a first dose then 0.5ml in 500ml bag of fluid for dogs and 0.3ml in 500ml bag for cats. We use the fluid bags during surgery at surgery rate and then generally reduce to maintenance post op. We use this for all ortho ops and any big soft tissues surgeries, it works very well and patients are very comfortable post op. Hope this helps!
