Not sure then to be honest. It could be just not enough dose for these one off cases

Given every 4hrs, nitrous used under GA and Carprieve given also........ Used at rec. dose rate

Was methadone repeated every 4hrs even if under ga?? Can you use nitrous oxide? I know it's only effective under ga. but FHNE is pretty brutal surgery. Maybe consider local anaesethsia? What doses of methadone are you using. Any other pain relief given at time ie NSAIDs??

We've used it this week on a few ortho ops, one was a FHNE and other was a ruptured Achilles' tendon, both dogs woke up crying/ screaming but did settle. Are we going wrong anywhere?

[/quote] Might be due to the fact that it contains a preservative. We used to use vials pre-bottled version. Really liked the use of it. Much better than morphine as you don't get the usual nausea associated with the use of morphine. Reduced ACP doses.

Thanks, that would be great. So far we're finding it a better pain killer than the MLK, how does everyone rate it?

Looking at the data sheet. It's doesn't mention the use of it in CRI. have only ever used morphine

We use it with ketamine. However on recent cpd webinar (it's a free one online and I can find the link if you need it) it does suggest that as a cri you should stick to morphine, and use methadone as pre-Meds. We are currently looking into the research behind this to adapt our protocol as needed.

We only use it on its own and not as an infusion.

we don't use it as a cri on its own as far as I am aware sorry
