She said she did once but did not want to upset the nurses, the following human nurse excuses are/were:

Never heard of it
It doesn't work on ulcers
It hurts when used
It isn't the right time
I have heard good things we will start next time (said several months ago and nurse never seen since)

Finally a nurse decided 2 weeks ago to shut me up and use it, l think the idea was to prove it would fail. So manuka honey dressings, same ones (company etc) as we use for the animals, and my mum having freaked out at every step from being told until the firat dressing had been on for 3 days.....(it will hurt, it will fail, it is for animals, it will drip everywhere etc.

Guess what ulcer is already measuring smaller than anytime in the past 6 months... really l could have told you bloody human nurses that months ago.

I introduced my current forward thinking vet to it when we had a burns victim and we just did a maggot infested gangrenous wound amoungst others. There is an Emergency Centre in Brisbane that pretty much exclusivley uses Manuka,it has to be the medical grade which is'nt cheap, don't make the mistake of using the wrong one. We just slather it on to swabs with a tongue depressor and apply, initially dressing should be changed daily, which may be necessary under GA/sedation. When vitilised tissue is evident debriding and redressing is combined and when possible a skin flap can be done. Of course this is wound/case dependant so can't comment on your case. I have a great case study of a dog who was dragged 3kms behind a car and had Manuka dressings for weeks, I'll see if I can attach it. Any questions feel free to ask.

Access to trial dressings for use in practice

A growing database of case reports of small, large and exotic animals generated from dressing trials

Access to the clinical advisory panel for help with specific problem cases

Membership of the library is valuable for clinicians who treat wounds
and wish to develop or try modern products or techniques with a bit of
extra support.

By using the products within the library a report is generated
that enables sharing of the outcome of treatment with other
members. There is no charge for dressings as long as a basic case
report is submitted with supporting photograph. This is simply done
through the reporting software within the site.

Telephone and e-mail support is available to all library
members and includes advice on dressing selection, clinical management,
and case reporting for those with technology phobias.

A clinical advisory panel will also be introduced in March 2009 to
support members with specific clinical challenges including surgical
proceedure. The panel includes specialists in small, large and exotic
species.

Re: wound management

Hi we had great success with a rottie that had a wound on one of its carpus - we used honey impregnated dressings and the result was really good!I def think it sped up the healing process as it had to heal by granulation with where the wound was.Would def give it a go - only thing was when we had to redress the wound it was quite messy taking the dressing off but once cleaned up it looked good.

Re: wound management

Join the following it is £38/year they send you out all their dressings for free first class post and they have a librtary of wound cases for you to study.
