I will be looking into this is the future but for now I will have to save up as sadly I do not have the funds to carry out the training on top of my hydro certificate. Also it seems like maybe a good idea to wait and see how the legislation is changed/developed. Its a long term dream that hopefully one day I will achieve. As regards setting up in practice with the hydro, unfortunately I know that this is not an avenue that I am going to have any chance to explore unless I move practices which of course is an option. I just wanted to seek advice as to any other ways I could find employment in the rehab and hydro industry. For instance I did come across an advert for a physiotherapy assistant at a referral centre that my practice deals with but sadly I was about a month too late to apply for the post. Here I dont think I needed to be qualified in physiotherapy but maybe the RVN qualification and my coming hydro qualification may have helped and essentially I may have had the opportunity to complete physio qualifications in the future as part of that position. I will just have to keep looking out for these positions and hope that next time I dont miss them.

Re: Finding employment as a small animal hydrotherapist.

Basically, there is more than one way to qualify as a vet physiotherapist. Some of the courses require you to have a human physiotherapy qualification before undertaking the veterinary physiotherapy course, some require that you have a relevant prior qualification (e.g. vet, nurse, equine scientist, etc) and the focus of the course is altered to account for the difference in prior experience/background/focus. Further, the organisation you "may" choose to affiliate with post - qualifying will necessarily vary according to the route of physiotherapy training. However, either allows you to practice as a vet physio (in fact, currently, I believe you could set up as one without any training but there are moves afoot to change this). I am not involved at all in our vet physio course so I cannot really comment with authority any further!

Re: Finding employment as a small animal hydrotherapist.

Confused

[/quote]

Not necessarily. Harper Adams University run a masters course in veterinary physiotherapist and we accept alternative qualifications. We are also launching an undergraduate honours degree level course in veterinary physiotherapy, that is suitable for school leavers with good A - level grades.

In my old practice there are a couple of nurses who were interessted in hydro and they managed to pitch it to the bosses and practice manager to install a hydro treadmill at a branch. they now do hydro and physio 3 days a week each and normal nursing the other days. Didn;t know if this was something viable in your prqactice.
