Its ok up until the last bit so instead of 45.8/60 it should be 60/45.8 = 1 drop every 1.3 secs x

ok i think i have got it. thank you! could you just tell me if i have done this right. 22kg dog - to be given over 8 hours

50 x 22kg = 1100 / 8 = 137.5 /60 =2.30 x 20 = 45.8 / 60 = 0.76 drips/second.

30 x 50 = 1500

1500 divided by 12 = 125ml/hr

125 divided by 60 = 2.08ml/min

2.08 x 20(drip factor) = 41 drips/min

60 divided by 41 = 1.5 drips per second

so for a 30kg dog - daily requirements to be given over 12 hours would be - 50 x 30 = 1500 / 12 = 125 so where does the drip factor come into it? - sorry for million questions, no ones is really helping at college they say i have to research and go back over lecture x

Yes thats what will be in your OSCES, remember a normal giving set has a drip factor of 20 drops per ml - paediatric is 60 and blood transfusion is 15, if you do the calculations all the time it will become second nature to you x

Hi this helps a bit , i think i must of not been at college for the lecture. So is maintenance fluid therapy always 50ml?

20kg dog

50ml x 20 = 1000ml

1000 divided by 24( hrs) = 41.7ml/hr

41.7 divided by 60(min) = 0.69ml/min

0.7 x 20(drip factor) = 14 drips/min

60(sec) divided by 14 = 4.3 drips/sec

Remember to put mls/mns/secs in your final equation, this is maintenance rate, if twice maint just double it and for 12 hours just put 12 instead of 24, hope this helps x
