We have a little cat in just now, positive for Campylobacter. She has been with us for almost a fortnight and doesn't seem to be getting any better (or worse). She is on erythromycin, salazopyrin

Re: Campylobacter help?!

Thanks, finally convinced the vet to place a feeding tube this morning. She's lost more weight and I pushed for a NG tube, she's tolerating it well and seems to be doing ok. Fingers crossed! She's a lovely wee cat and a gem to work with, getting fond of her

might be worth trying mirtazipine at 1/8th tab every third day to help her appetitie

Re: Campylobacter help?!

Thanks for the replies everyone!

Spoke to the vet about possibly placing a feeding tube so that may happen this week; money is a bit of an issue so need to discuss it with owners. She loved having a little bath though, had been cleaning her with swabs but had a rake through our cupboards and found some pet head foamy shampoo stuff (smells amazing!) so shes all clean and smells of strawberry yoghurt :)

The vet has also changed the tx, different antib's and less scootiness the past few days so fingers crossed!

Thanks again :)

Erm, I digress...

I know it's not your call but has your lab speciated the strain of campy to ensure it is sensitive to the antibiotic....? There are a few random strains out there now, just worth thinking about it there hasn't been much of a response...

Hope she gets better soon

Re: Campylobacter help?!

Sometimes I just get a damp bit of cotton wool and clean their face and use it to wipe the coat over. It's a silly little thing but they seem to really enjoy it. Worth a try, I know it's not going to make her better but it might make her happy for a few minutes.

Re: Campylobacter help?!

Hiya,

Would be looking at placing a feeding tube... bit like we would in a parvo pup - even if eating you can substitute... might also be worth a shot of vitamin B12...

Hope she does ok xxx
