We got him a drinking fountain to increase fluid intake, he loved it. He was always a very fussy eater but settled on dry rcw renal with some beef pouches which he actually licked the jelly off. Sometimes he liked tinned k/d and sometimes not. He didnt like his biscuits wet or the homemade diet. Hope this helps x

Re: My cat with renal failure.

Try Purina NF. My cat is very fussy eater, has never eaten for more than 3 days at a time before taking a 2 day break..

She LOVES Purina NF, bsicuits and tinned. Has never eaten like it and has gained weight! Purina is supposedly reknowned for their palatibiltiy.

Re: My cat with renal failure.

Have you tried the Purina NF?
My cat Dylan sounds just the same (he's older though at 15), he will eat the Royal Canin dry but only licks the juices of both the RC wet and k/d . I want to keep him having some wet so I will try the specific brand. He's been on c/d all his life since serious bladder issues as a youngster so I'm really paranoid about causing any issues in that department and hate having to mess with his food. The other thing I struggle with is remembering to give him his Benazecare every day....so easy when you're telling clients to do it!!!

Ironically my new kitten much prefers the low protein to her own kitten food.....if I'm not quick they do a swapsy!

Re: My cat with renal failure.

Yup, I was going to suggest specific as well, years ago there was a blind test, and eventually the winner was revealed as specific. I wish you both well x

Could you do subcutaneous fluids at home, I had a friend who did this for quite a while with good results, have a look on the fab website for more suggestions.

Re: My cat with renal failure.

Hi Jenny

There is another one out there called specific renal that seems to be pretty tasty when all else fails.

Re: My cat with renal failure.

Have you thought about trying 'Renalzin' (phosphate binder) on his favourite food. Possibly better letting him eat what he wants and getting around the low phos issue with an addition to the food???
