I have 2 dogs who are on Wafcol Salmon and potato Snr food because one has had an issue with chronic diarrhoea. They have both had routine bloods done and both show slightly low calcium. The vet isn't worried and just casually suggested I find

Re: Vitamins for dogs?

just had a really daft thought - humour me I have quite a few

salmon calcitonin is used in humans with osteoporosis as it prevents calcium loss from the skeleton but also it keeps blood calcium lowish as it inhibits calcium absorption through the intestines - does this have anything to do with the low calcium you are seeing?

probably just another of my daft thoughts but just wondered?

Re: Vitamins for dogs?

Thanks Roseann - I'll look into it.

Steph - good point. I'm fairly sure I questioned the potassium but didn't know it could impact the calcium - I'll double check on Monday

Sal - thanks, I'll look into those too.

Was the EDTA tube filled prior to the serum/lith hep tube? Just that EDTA can chelate calcium leading to low results but usually that goes hand in hand with an increased potassium

Re: Vitamins for dogs?

We used to sell Pet Cal (like Pet Tabs but obvs with the emphasis on calcium and Vit D) years ago - I just googled it and you can still get them .
