He could just have easily dug a deep hole and buried her in the garden for free. Having said that no-one would ever have discovered he'd strangled the dog that way.

I know I have been out with vets a few times to difficult pts at police request - 2 where it has required dogs to be shot and it has been the police who have been billed. I suppose as nobody really knows what was said when he approached various practices.... - I do still feel some empathy for this guy if he genuinely did try everything he said he had but then was so desperate - in the same situation where you have family members at risk in an emergency , where you dont necessarily have the time or the clarity of mind, or the means or knowledge to deal with things any other way I just wonder how some of us would deal with the situation?

Absolutely disgusted. Other dogs should be taken off him as well incase they turn "dangerous" and he decides to strangle them too as a humane death is too expensive.

Re: Dad who strangled dog to death in Canterbury cleared of animal cruelty

In some ways I can empathise with this person
He could have taken her to Dogs Trust or Battersea at Brands Hatch instead of strangling her.
I would say most of the shelters are full to busting and yes people are being turned away
If that failed he would have done better to tie her to a lamp-post and let the dog warden deal with it.
Do not ever ever advocate this - sorry but this has made me angry, if you have ever had to go out to a dog that has been tied and left and is absolutely frantic. Nobody knows how long it has been there, some are left for days (until somebody gets around to collecting them) some are never found in time and besides that you are passing on a dog which is known to have an aggression problem to somebody unsuspecting which has the potential to cause a really nasty injury - so sorry I know you were thinking of the welfare of the dog but leaving it tied to a lampost or anywhere else for that matter is a real no no.

That animal didn't get the support it needed. I don't lack sympathy for a man trying to protect his family, but there are far more humane ways to go about it.

Re: Dad who strangled dog to death in Canterbury cleared of animal cruelty

He could have taken her to Dogs Trust or Battersea at Brands Hatch instead of strangling her. I dare say Battersea would have failed her on the socialisation test and pts her anyway but at least it would have humane.
