FCE are not usually painful although most owners report vocalisation when it first occurs - possibly pain or shock as the dog dosen't know whats happening. Most dogs generally improve to normal or almost normal function, the amount of improvement seen after 7 days of it occuring is generally the amount of improvement that will happen. They generally don't occur again and prognosis is generally good.

With regard to the arthritis, long term pain management should be appropriate but you should speak to your vet about this.

You should be able to speak to the specialist about FCEs if you have any further questions about your dogs case.

Re: Advice needed :(

So sorry to hear of the problems with your dog I'm afraid I know very little about the condition as its generally a referral condition. I think that corticosteroids are of benefit in the first 8 hours. Unsure about long term meds. Most cases do recover, but slowly. Added problems can be from the bladder being affected too (urine retention). Speak to your vet about treating any pain from the arthritis, but I don't think FCE itself is painful? Hopefully someone will be able to offer some help & advice. Let us know how you get on.
