I was hoping someone may have experienced this before or may have a vet with good opthalmic knowledge they could ask. I nurse at RSPCA and we have a slightly odd little kitten with us at the moment. He was born here in the centre with 3 litter

Re: Cataracts and stunted growth in a kitten

Does sound like it is pointing to PSS, he is booked in down there tomorrow so will let you all know.
I was going to say it kinda points to a PSS, hopefully your local practice has someone experienced in locating PSS as they can be difficult!!

[/quote]

will agree with that - we were struggling to find the cause of our kitty's problems for a little while

Re: Cataracts and stunted growth in a kitten

I was going to say it kinda points to a PSS, hopefully your local practice has someone experienced in locating PSS as they can be difficult!!

Re: Cataracts and stunted growth in a kitten

Thanks Mark :)

Re: Cataracts and stunted growth in a kitten

http://www.fabcats.org/owners/portosystemic_shunt/case.html

It's designed for owners, not vets, but a nice read anyway.

Re: Cataracts and stunted growth in a kitten

Ah great thanks, appreciated :) That's interesting, I will pass that on to the vet. We don't have ultrasound here but do at our local surgery so can pop him down there.

Thanks

Re: Cataracts and stunted growth in a kitten

I will ask around for you but I have seen these symptoms before all together in a rex kitten which was a porto- systemic shunt. Did not show convincingly in bloods until he was about 6mths old.

Do you have access to ultrasound there?
