We like to draw the amount up in seperate syringes so we know the dose is acurate. Dispensing them with needles is not idea and may infact confuse the client

Re: Dispensing Vetergesic Oral

As with some of the others we draw up the correct dose and then use the blue syringe stoppers.

Re: Dispensing Vetergesic Oral

this technique is stolen from another nurse i work with....cut the end of normal needle caps with claw clippers and the end fits perfectly on the end of the syringe. we keep a tub full of needle caps just for this purpose

Re: Dispensing Vetergesic Oral

You could draw up the dose in a syringe, and transfer it into a plain blood tube (remove the little disc inside!) and give the owner a 1ml syringe so she can administer it. That way, the tubes are securely sealed and transported easily - there's no risk of the owner accidentally depressing the syringe. It's up to you whether you put the exact dose in each tube, or the lot in one tube, depending on the client! The tubes are then easily put into a dispensing bag, to give to the owner

Re: Dispensing Vetergesic Oral

The orange caps off of certain insulin syringes fit on the end of syringes quite nicely (they also fit very well on the end of giving sets)

Re: Dispensing Vetergesic Oral

yup pre drawn up syringes with syringe stoppers

Re: Dispensing Vetergesic Oral

would def agree syringe caps are the way forward, i wouldn't give the client's needles or cut needles re safety and like you said compliance/confusion. syringe caps are cheap to purchase and are designed for this purpose. when i've seen vetergesic dispensed it's always been in individual pre-drawn up doses for sublingual use. i think it works well for post dentals :)

Re: Dispensing Vetergesic Oral

Some vaccines come with little rubber stoppers on the ends of the syringes, these work well or I agree with the ends of giving sets.

Re: Dispensing Vetergesic Oral

Syringe caps and we put them all out in individual syringes also

Re: Dispensing Vetergesic Oral

We have small blue syring caps that stop the fluid leaking out.
