Usually you will pay some sort of rent (though subsidised), or you may live there for free in return for doing in-patient checks/more regular night duties. Some places offer better deals than others-where I am currently has no retainer on me checking in-patients unless I want to, but the night duty staff should do this though the rent is pretty high. Another practice had something like £20 per month rent but had to check patients every 3rd night, and did 1-2 nights on call per week.

Re: TraineeVN position in Yorkshire, Advice please =D

ah good well done you thats what im thinking, thats why im throwing myself at every practice who offer me work exp

one thing i do worry about it that if you tell them you will need accommodation will this put them off? would you be seen as a burden to them as youd have to live there

Its about how practical you are, not how brainy you are. This is how i got my job although my GSCE's werent great i had loads of animal care qualifications and experience and got to do the ana qualification the progress to Vet Nursing. I would mention in your covering letter that you are looking for a residential postion if you apply to practices further away. Otherwise the person reading it may assume that you are able to find your own accommodation/have relatives or friends to stay with.

I'm sure I saw a couple of SVN jobs with accommodation in last weeks Vet Times-let me check!

Re: TraineeVN position in Yorkshire, Advice please =D

i sent CV's to about 50 practices in jan, when would be appropriate to send them again? dont want to irritate although i have added to my exp since then from 2 practices to 4 so is it worth sending a new batch out? also should i look further afield to places maybe 2hrs away? but obviously id need accommodation in them circumstances (is that worth mentioning in the covering letter? or just bring it up if an interview comes out of it?)
